Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer is one of the most common among all the cancers found. It is considered as one of the major cause of deaths in both men and women. If we go with the reports, Lung cancer is the top cause of deaths in the United States and worldwide.

Lung Cancer definition:

Lung Cancer, also known as lung carcinoma, is characterized by uncontrolled growth of the cells in lung tissues. This growth of the cells if not obstructed and can even grow to other nearby tissues and body.

On the basis of above criteria, Lung Cancer can be classified as Small Cell Lung Cancer and Non Small Cell Lung Cancer. Let’s discuss each of them in brief.

1. Small Cell Lung Cancer:

Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) is also known as small-cell carcinoma. The percentage of this cancer is about 12% to 15%, while the rest occurs because of Non Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Small Cell Lung Cancer Causes:

  • Tobacco consumption is one of the most prominent reasons for such cancers. Not only the person who smokes is prone to Cancer, but also secondhand tobacco smoke makes you prone to this cancer. Secondhand tobacco smoke leads to 25% to 30% increase in the chance of getting cancer as compared to those who are away to secondhand smoke.
  • Susceptibility to asbestos also leads to lung cancer.
  • Exposure to radon and people who mine uranium also leads to lung cancer.
